Nanded : A shocking case of caste-based violence has emerged from Nanded's Juna Ghat area in Maharashtra, where a young man, Sakhyam Tate (20), was allegedly murdered by the family of his girlfriend, Aachal Mamidwar (21), for being from a different caste. After his death, Aachal performed traditional rituals on Sakhyam’s body—applying turmeric and vermilion to him and to her own forehead—symbolically declaring him her husband. She said she would now live in Sakhyam’s house.

Aachal stated: “My lover won even in death, and my parents lost even after killing him.” According to her, her family had been threatening Sakhyam for months. On Thursday around 5:45 pm, he was allegedly lured and then attacked. Police said Aachal’s father, Gajanan Mamidwar, and brothers Sahil and Himesh shot at Sakhyam and stabbed him multiple times. Police also confirmed that both the deceased and some of the accused had previous criminal records. Sakhyam’s family informed police that just two hours before the murder, Aachal’s mother, Jayashree Mamidwar, visited their house and issued open threats.

Aachal told the media: “This murder was driven by caste and hatred. I loved him and still love him. I will live in his house now.” Based on Sakhyam’s mother’s complaint, Itwara Police registered a case of murder and harassment. Within 12 hours, police arrested all six accused: Jayashree Madansingh Thakur, Gajanan Balajirao Mamidwar, Sahil Mamidwar, Himesh Mamidwar, Somesh Subhash Lake, Vedant Ashok Kundekar. Deputy Superintendent of Police Prashant Shinde confirmed that Sakhyam was beaten to death and that further investigation is underway.
