Awar | The controversy over the Critical Tiger Habitat (CTH) in Sariska Tiger Reserve intensified on Wednesday, as Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Julie faced विरोध—not just from locals but also from people claiming to be Congress workers.

During a meeting at the Alwar Mini Secretariat, Julie questioned officials including the District Collector, CCF, and DFO, alleging that changes in the CTH boundaries were being made to facilitate mining activities. He further claimed that officials were under pressure from Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and State Forest Minister Sanjay Sharma. As Julie exited the meeting, a group of 20–30 villagers from Tahla’s Palwa village confronted him. Led by Kamlesh Meena, they claimed to be Congress workers and expressed support for the new CTH plan. They argued that earlier they struggled even to obtain stones for house construction and accused Julie of spreading misinformation. This led to a heated argument between Julie’s supporters and villagers, requiring police intervention.

Julie termed the CTH revision a “major scam,” alleging that areas near urban zones are being included while distant areas are excluded for vested interests. He demanded a fair investigation, stating that changes should only occur if tiger breeding or population is affected—not for mining benefits.

Critical Tiger Habitat (CTH) refers to core forest areas essential for tiger movement and breeding. Under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, these zones are strictly protected with minimal human interference. Earlier, Tahla region was part of the CTH but is now proposed to be excluded, while other areas are being added. This restructuring has triggered protests from both villagers and wildlife conservation advocates.
