A horrific crime in Baruipur, West Bengal, has now turned into a major political controversy.

The case involves the alleged rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl. Following the incident, police arrested several suspects. However, local residents have alleged that BJP Mandal President Shantanu Mondal attempted to use his political influence to pressure police into releasing the main accused. These allegations have not been established and are under investigation.

As protests intensified across the area, police detained Shantanu Mondal for questioning. Authorities have arrested four accused, including Prabhash Mondal and Indrajit Tanti. In a separate incident, accused Indrajit Tanti reportedly died after being assaulted by an angry mob.

Considering the sensitivity of the case, the investigation has been transferred to a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The case has triggered widespread public outrage and raised serious questions about alleged political interference in criminal investigations. Police say every angle is being examined, and further legal action will depend on the findings of the SIT.
