Seasonal allergies are showing up earlier and with greater severity this year, a trend attributed to high pollen counts exacerbated by climate change. Individuals across North and South-Eastern parts of the United States are particularly affected.
Research published in 2021 revealed that pollen season now commences 20 days earlier and contains 21% more pollen than it did in 1990. With approximately 60 million Americans experiencing spring allergies annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the impact is substantial.
While symptoms like sneezing, itchy eyes, and nasal congestion are often viewed as irritating inconveniences, they can sometimes escalate to life-threatening conditions. Therefore, individuals are encouraged to manage their symptoms with over-the-counter medications, dietary adjustments, and proper hydration.
It's crucial to seek medical attention promptly if experiencing breathing difficulties or chest symptoms, ensuring appropriate management and treatment of allergy-related complications.
